Pwetty.

Pwetty.
Marietta: “So Rosie’s boyfriend asked her to move in with him.”
Pepper: “I assume she told him no, or you’d be throwing things while you said that.” Pepper chuckled.
Marietta: “Oh but it gets better: then he gave her a promise ring. Said he loved her, that he’d wait for her. I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem right.”
Pepper: “Well isn’t that a good thing? He’s being respectful.”
Marietta: “But what if it’s a trick? I wish I could talk to Colby about this, but you know how he gets.”

[Soon after this they all went to bed, and Marie’s mother surprised me with an appearance, as if she were eavesdropping, keeping tabs on the family post-mortem. I thought it was sweet.]

Rosetta: “Mama, can I talk to you about something? ”
Marietta: “Of course baby, what’s the matter?”
Rosetta: “Well, Emerson came by earlier…”
Rosetta tries to shoo him away: “You know I can’t, my dad wouldn’t let me! You should go home before he hears you.”
Emerson: “Look, I love you, and I’m willing to wait. Will you at least take this, and think about it?”
Emerson: “So, I was thinking… my birthday is coming up, and it’s got me considering my options, like jobs and whether to move out on my own. So, um, I was wondering…”
Rosetta: “Yeah?”
Emerson takes a breath. “I was wondering if I moved out, would you come with me?”
Rosetta: “Oh.”
Corbin: “And then, I kissed her! And she didn’t hit me! It was great.”
Emerson: “I’m glad for you man, Yuki sounds great. You should bring her by sometime.”
Corbin: “I’d love to, but she’s a little shy, so I’m working up to it, you know?”
Emerson: “Yeah, I gotcha.” His brother’s success last night gets Emerson thinking about Rosie. “I’ve been thinking about taking the next step with Rosetta, move out together somewhere, I don’t know. This seeing each other only on the weekends is driving me crazy.”
Corbin: “Isn’t she a little young for that? I mean you’re about to graduate and she’s what, a sophomore?”
Emerson sighs: “I know, but I don’t want to lose her, I want her to know how important she is to me. It can’t hurt to ask, right?”
Yuki: “Isn’t this view beautiful?”
Corbin: “Yeah……”
Yuki: “You’re not even looking at it!”
Corbin: “Look Yuki, I’d really like to try something right now, please don’t get mad at me.”
Yuki: “Is this about to get weird?”
Surprisingly, it was Yuki who chased Marcus off; she kept making faces at his comments, and shooed him away after a particularly tasteless joke. Corbin had made a better impression than he’d thought.
Corbin: “Do you want to get out of here? It’s a little crowded.”
The relief on Yuki’s face matched his when she smiled. “I know a great spot nearby.”

Typical family get-together, way too many people in one room…
