[…As he was walking inside to go start his homework, I swear to god she looked at me with a “leave him alone” look.  I missed the solid frown because my computer decided to pause slowly, but she was giving me the stink-eye!

She and Temerity have a tendency to break the fourth wall when I mess with their kids too much.  I think they’re x-men.  That’s why they’re such good friends.

Jefani: “Are you sure you don’t want to talk about it?”

Emerson: “Mom, I’m such an idiot!  Mr. Jack hates me, he thinks I’m a creep!”

Jefani: “Well, sweetie, what did you expect?  You asked his underage daughter to move out with you, and have unchaperoned parties and drunken sex with a string of strangers every night.”

Emerson: “WHAT!?  Oh my ‘bob no I didn’t!”

Jefani sighed in exasperation: “But that is what he heard, what he was going to hear no matter what you told him.  That’s his baby girl, and you’re just another bundle of testosterone trying to get into her pants.  You really should have come to me or your father with this beforehand.”

Emerson: “Is there a better way I could have asked her?”

Jefani: “Yeah, wait a few more years.”

Emerson: “Oh.”

Jefani: “If you love Rosie, the best thing you could have done was to make friends with her parents, let them see the sweet guy that you are, idiot or not.”  She gave him a pointed look.  “Now we have to do some damage control, but we can still salvage the situation.  Do you trust me?”

Emerson: “Yeah…”

Jefani: “Then give Rosie a call and invite the whole household over for your birthday this weekend.  She’s a bright girl, I’m sure she can convince her dad to come by.”

After finalizing the edits on her new book of limericks, Jefani decided to take a celebratory jog around the block to stretch her legs.

A nice shower and a pitcher of freshly squeezed lemonade later, Emerson returned home from school.  “Hi sweetheart, did you have a good day at school?  How did dinner go with Rosie’s parents last night?”

Emerson: “Urgh, don’t remind me!”

Jefani: “That badly, huh?”

Corbin: “It’s not going to be a party exactly, it’s just going to be my parents, Danae and her husband, and probably Emerson’s girlfriend all hanging out in my backyard.  That’s it.  You could even bring your sister if you want, I’m sure they’d love to meet her too!”

Yuki: “I-”  She sighed.  “Sure, that sounds great.  I’ll ask her if she’s free; when is this ‘not a party’ party?”

Corbin grinned: “In four days.  I think my mother said two o’clock.  I’ll double check and give you a call soon.”

“Okay.”  She gave him a wry smile and a hug.

Then they grabbed a snack and spent the next hour walking around the plaza talking about computers and games (he is employed at a gaming company after all) before he had to leave for work.

Yuki waved when Corbin came into view.  “Hey babe, over here!”

Corbin: “Yuki, there you are!  I was hoping to catch you before work!”

Yuki laughed and gave him a kiss.  “So why were you jogging around Windenburg looking for me?”

Corbin: “I’ve got a lot of stuff to do this week, and I wasn’t going to have time to see you for a while.  But my brother’s 18th birthday is coming up, and I wanted to see if you could make it.  They’d love to meet you.”

Knowing how protective Colby was of his girls, Pepper figured the best thing for everyone was to sit down together and have an open, honest discussion.  Emerson could verify his good intentions toward Rosie, and Colby could politely point out his reservations about the relationship with both teens.

Poor Emerson, grinning like an idiot, trying to seem as harmless as possible to his girlfriend’s dad.

Rosie looks pissed.

I think it’s going well.

Mona Rae: “Daddy, can I go swimming?”

Colby: “No, we’re all waiting for Rosie’s pedo boyfriend to come over.  I don’t want him to see you in a bathing suit.”

Marietta: “COLBY.  He’s not like that, don’t scare her!”

Colby:  -__-

Rosetta: “That was Emerson.  He says he’s sorry, he’s almost here; he had to help his dad with… Uh, did I miss something?”

Being an outdoor lover trapped in an office all day, Colby loves nothing more than a nice long jog after dinner.  Pepper catches him while his food settles, and asks him to find her when he gets back in.

Colby: “Hey Mom, what’s up?  Are you okay?”

Pepper: “Here hon, have a drink…”
