Tem: “Hey Fred.  Yeah it’s that time… no… yeah just mail me the paperwork… okay.  Thanks Fred.  I’ll be by in a few days to pick up my stuff.  You too.”

Welp.  That was it, she was officially a retiree.

Kam: “Is it done?”

Tem winked at him.  “Yep, I’m a jobless loafer.”

Kam chuckled.  “Well you’ll have plenty to do soon enough.  Enjoy the rest while you can.  I’m off now, I’ll see you later.  Love you.”  He gave her a kiss and went down the street.

Tem waved at his back.  “Love you too!”  Now what do I do?  Ooh!  I should take Danae out for nursery stuff!

Eyes shining with new purpose, Tem went inside to hunt down the unsuspecting pregnant woman.

First Trimester

Tem: “Have you thought about whether you’re going to keep working or stay at home?”

Danae: “I don’t know what I want to do yet,” she shrugged.  “My mom kept working, but that’s because my dad wanted to stay home with us.  He helped her out by selling his harvests and paintings.  But I don’t think Atticus wants to be a stay-at-home dad.”  She gave him a wry smile.

Atticus tried to imagine Wyatt’s reaction to news like that.  “To be honest, no.  But maybe we could see if Char or Penny can babysit?”

Tem: “Actually, I was considering retirement.  How would you two feel about me staying home with the baby?”

Atticus: “You shouldn’t have to do that mom, we can figure something out.”

Tem: “Oh sweetie, I was already on the fence about it!  Being a code monkey wasn’t exactly my dream job anyway.  It was just a way to keep the roof over our heads while you guys were young.  You’re not young anymore, and neither am I.”  She turned to Kam.  “What about you my love, did you decide whether you were going to throw in the towel with me?”

Kam sighed.  “I’m going to stick with it for a while longer; the boys and I still have that big project to finish, and I’ve got a few ideas to run by Carl that would need my help putting in place.”
