Third Trimester popped!
I love Violet’s “are you joshing me?” face. She does it all the time.
She’s asking Corbin about vampires over breakfast, and he confirms what her mother said. There really are bloodsuckers out there, and they aren’t all lawyers.
While she talks things over with Duoceratops, he tries to help her find her zen.
Alice heard voices so she came down to see who was over. “Oh Mr DeLion, how are you? Please excuse the mess, Violet didn’t pick up after herself before she left for school.” She shook her head and went to clean said mess.
Derek: “Don’t worry about it hon, I’m used to children’s toys everywhere. So how do you feel about your boyfriend carrying another man’s child?”
Alice smiled at him. “The pollinator was more than likely a female. That’s their way. The females pollinate, and the males carry the children, like seahorses.”
Derek’s eyebrows rose. “Really!? How do you know that?”
Corbin excused himself to go make a snack while Alice walked over. “For a while back in college I wanted to be a scientist;
I studied astro-biology, and what little we knew of Sixam culture. Ultimately the anatomy of humans won my interest and I became a doctor, but I kept all of my school books. Thank goodness!” She waved a ducky towards the kitchen. “They’ve been very helpful in explaining some of the things Corbin is going through.”
Derek kissed her cheek. “Well I’m glad he has you to help him through this. You’re a gem Alice.”
“Oh please…” She turned away, blushing.
“Hey kiddo, I’m glad you invited me over, it’s been… Are you okay?” Derek looked his eldest up and down, resting his gaze on the rather rotund tummy.
Corbin sighed. “Yeah, it’s a long story, but I’m fine. I think.”
Derek: “You’re girlfriend’s a good cook I take it?”
“Uh, she is, but this… it’s actually…” Corbin leaned in a bit. “I was abducted by aliens Dad.”
Derek: “Hooooooo-boy! This’ll be fun to explain to your mother.”
Derek straightened up and waved his hand. “Oh who am I kidding? She loves this kind of stuff!”
Corbin:
“So you’re not bothered by it?”
“Bothered that my son got knocked up by an alien?” He chortled. “No! Just as long as you made them take you out to dinner first!”
“Tell me the truth, do you still find my swollen ankles attractive?” Corbin grinned as he walked by Alice.
She raised an eyebrow. “No, but if it helps I never found your ankles attractive because I’m not from the Victorian era.”
He stuck his tongue out at her.
“Gaah! I’ll never get used to that!”
Alice: “Violet sweetie, can we talk?”
Violet: “Yeah mom, what’s up?”
Alice: “Do you remember when you asked for a brother or sister?”
Violet: “Mom, did Corbin get you pregnant?”
Alice: “VIOLET! No!” She sighed. “Do you remember how we also discussed never going outside alone at night, don’t talk to strange people wandering in the dark, don’t go investigating weird lights that appear…?”
Violet: “Yeah…?”
Alice: “Well a few days ago, Corbin went outside to investigate some weird lights out front, and… he was abducted. And now he’s pregnant.”
Violet frowned. “Boys can’t have babies. Is this a joke? Or the lead up to a lecture? I swear whatever Emmett told you, I didn’t do it.”
Alice shook her head. “No honey, this really happens, that’s why I’ve drilled into you to stay inside at night. Vampires are real, and so are aliens, and sometimes they collect a human subject for study… and experimentation.”
Violet tilted her head. “So Corbin really is having a baby?”
Alice: “Two actually. I brought him into the clinic earlier to confirm. He’s having twins.”
